The Canadian publication Le Droit reported over the weekend that Wyclef Jean may be retiring his sample machine and giving Haitian politics a try. So far Wyclef has been playing down reports of his presidential ambitions but he did admit to CNN that he has filled out the necessary paper work to run for the top office in Haiti.
The Hot Mess in this story involves allegations surrounding Wyclef’s charity Yele. Websites like Gawker and Smoking Gun claimed that Yele is a poorly ran and corrupt organization through which he paid his mistress over $100.000 and has made himself richer. Jean has denied these allegations and stated that Yele has only been used for the benefit of the Hatian People.
Lets hope that if Wyclef has an opportunity to lead the Haitian people that he would improve the conditions they face. Wyclef is quoted as saying “I can’t sing forever”. The question is could he sing ever? But his music is still inspiring and that can’t be taking away from him.
